Reiki
Reiki is “spiritually guided life force energy.” Originating in Japan, it is a spiritual healing practice that can help us to return to natural balance on every level – body, mind, spirit and relationships. It is helpful for people of all ages and in all states of health. Reiki supports our well-being and strengthens our natural ability to heal by encouraging balance.
Reiki treatment is performed on a fully-clothed person who is reclining or seated with a light touch or hands just above the person’s body. You may feel a warm tingling where Reiki hands are placed, or soft waves of pulsations flowing throughout your body. Some say they feel nothing at all, except that they feel relaxed afterward, with an enhanced sense of well-being. People normally report feeling very relaxed, and are relieved from pain and anxiety. It is common to experience improved sleep and digestion. The Reiki practitioner does not ‘direct’ the energy, rather the energy flows through the practitioner to the recipient, and so both persons benefit from the energy of Reiki. Reiki energy goes where it is needed, very much like prayer.
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the source of this healing energy. As we practice Reiki, we are in prayer for the healing and wholeness of the recipient. Many healing professionals such as nurses and hospitals are using the practice today. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) classifies Reiki as a form of energy medicine, specifically a biofield therapy.
