Labyrinth Walks

Walking a labyrinth is a spiritual practice of prayer. A labyrinth is not a maze, but a single well-defined path that leads into the center, and then, out from the center. It is a metaphor for life. As one walks the labyrinth, we find ourselves on a path in which we move out of the world’s time. On the labyrinth path, we can open ourselves to focus our attention and allow our bodies as well as our minds to pray. There is no right or wrong way to walk a labyrinth - one only needs to be open to the possibilities and the unexpected insights that may appear.

The labyrinth is a very ancient sacred space. Churches of medieval times used labyrinths as places for pilgrims to gather, especially those who could not travel to the Holy Land for pilgrimage. The Chartres Cathedral in France is one remaining example. Churches in modern times are rediscovering labyrinths as a renewing space for meditation and prayer in our busy lives.

Hope Springs Ministries owns a 24-foot portable labyrinth. It is a classical seven circuit Chartres labyrinth made in a sturdy vinyl material. It can be used indoors or outdoors.

If your church or group would like to offer a labyrinth prayer experience, we can facilitate a day or a weekend retreat. Contact us for further information.
